How to Use
Baseboard Placement
First, ensure the patient's arm is safely out of the scoop's way. Use the central slot on the support as a handhold for inserting each scoop underneath the mattress, one on each side of the patient, at the preferred position on the table. Ensure the support bases are pushed in under the mattress as far as possible, whilst keeping the patient comfortable.
Correctly align the Patient's arms to
the device
Ensure fingers do not go past the edge of the scoop for patient safety.
Check there is a comfortable space between the patient's arm and the device
Avoid pressure injury by ensuring the patient's arm is not too tightly tucked into their side. Run two fingers along the edge of the patient's arm and the scoop and ensure there is a comfortable space between the two.
Additional slots are available for optional patient strapping
Should the patient require further security, you may use the additional slots at your discretion.
Placement of soft arm pad or similar
To ensure patient comfort, place a soft arm pad or similar on the scoop before positioning against the patient.
Placement with intravenous (IV) or intra arterial (IA) line
When placing the scoop against a patient using IV or AI lines, ensure the lines are held safely away from the scoops. Holding them above the patient's arm is a safe way to ensure the lines do not get trapped between the patient skin and scoop, or the mattress and scoop.
Removing the Adducted Arm Scoop
To remove the Adducted Arm Scoop, first safely shift the patient's arm on to their body, or wherever it is safe to do so, before pulling the scoop out from under the mattress using the central slot as a handhold. Repeat for the other side.
